Late Contact Relegates Sweet to 28th-place Finish at Daytona

Daytona News

Brad Sweet patiently found a spot among the mid-pack early on with the No. 5 Great Clips Chevrolet. Once there, Sweet struggled to find a competitive drafting partner – as he did for most of the race – but still managed to claw his way to 15th for the green-white-checkered restart. When the field raced back up to speed, the 5 was caught in the clutches of the pack traffic. Sweet never lost sight of a potential top-10 until contact from a competitor sent him sliding out of the racing groove. Remarkably, he saved the car from hitting the wall, but the contact relegated the team to a 28th-place finish.

“It was tough out there on us tonight. The Great Clips car was quick, I just couldn’t find a decent drafting partner and kept getting bogged down in the middle of the pack with nowhere to go, so it was a struggle at times. I thought we might be able to get up closer toward the front on the last restart, but guys starting pushing and shoving and we got taken out. Not how we wanted things to end.”
