Contact Late Spoils Sweet’s Top-10 Run in California

Brad Sweet saw a probable top-10 finish wiped away when contact from Brian Scott spun Sweet’s No. 5 Great Clips Chevrolet with 28 laps to go. Sweet had steadily improved his running position throughout the race, moving into the top 15 by lap 50 and into the top 10 with less than 50 laps remaining. After taking four tires at lap 111, Sweet worked his way to as high eighth before the contact with Scott. Following the spin, Sweet brought his car to pit road at lap 125 for a four-tire change under green. Unfortunately for Sweet and the No. 5 team, the caution never waved again, leaving him with a 22nd-place finish.

“That was a tough way to end the day. We definitely ran strong but don’t have much to show for it. Bummy made some good changes during the race and I found a lot of speed running the top line. We were a little too loose most of the day but I felt like we were moving forward. Seeing where Regan finished, getting tires was the right call for us but the 2 got into us and really spoiled our day.”
