Great Clips Team finishes 22nd at Bristol
Brad Sweet’s orientation to racing at the Bristol half-mile provided a challenging day for the Great Clips team. Sweet started 27th in a backup car after being collected in a four-car accident during final practice Friday afternoon. From the drop of the green flag, the No. 5 Chevrolet was extremely tight, causing Sweet to lose a lap early. A loose right-rear wheel caused Sweet to spin out. He narrowly avoided contact with the outside retaining wall at lap 59. Both Sweet and crew chief Mike Bumgarner remained calm throughout the event, taking advantage of several cautions to make adjustments to improve the car’s handling. Throughout the 300-lap race, Sweet’s lap times improved en route to a 22nd-place finish.

“I wish we could have run better today. We were just too tight at the start and then the loose wheel caused me to spin. Eventually I found a line running up high and felt like I got in a rhythm the last 100 laps, but we were just too far behind at that point.
“I’m really looking forward to next week at Fontana. I ran well there last season and I expect to have a good run for Great Clips and the team.”
