Late Contact Spoils Top-10 Run for Sweet

Kentucky News

Brad Sweet’s handling issues were similar to that of his JR Motorsports teammate. The Great Clips team also took full advantage of a two-tire pit stop to crack the top-10 by lap 68. Over the next 30 laps, Sweet patiently settled into a position among the top-15. After a spin on lap 112, following hard door-to-door racing, Sweet and the team were desperately trying to make gains on the racetrack. Their efforts were compounded further after the Great Clips Chevy fell a lap down to the leaders. Sweet rallied back to position the team for the Lucky Dog award, but was collected in a mishap on the backstretch during the race’s 163rd circuit. The incident sent Sweet hard into the outside wall and cut an oil line, which initiated a fiery crash. Sweet emerged unscathed from the wreckage and the 5 team was relegated to a 30th-place finish.

Brad Sweet, driver No. 5 Great Clips team
“I hate it for the Great Clips guys. You know they work hard each and every weekend, and when we tear up a car, it makes a lot of extra work for them. We were just out there trying to race for the lucky dog and then we got tangled up. It was a hard hit. We fought a tight car for most of the race and it was certainly a challenge tonight.”
