Sweet Battles for Top-10 Finish at Texas

Texas Post

Brad Sweet’s race in the Great Clips machine was chocked full of peaks and valleys. It was a struggle early on for Sweet, as he spent most of his day outside the top-15 and twice fell a lap down to the leaders. Still, Sweet and the No. 5 team remained focused, earning the first lap back in part to a wave around under caution on lap 70. Later in the race, Sweet positioned himself for the lucky dog award, and after spending a multitude of laps clinging to the spot, the team found the necessary caution to regain its lost lap. Lined up in 15th for the race’s final restart, Sweet blasted the competition and made several brazen moves over the final laps that netted the team five positions. Sweet crossed the stripe in 10th, marking his fourth top-10 finish of 2013.

“It turned out to be a pretty good day for our Great Clips car.  It was definitely a struggle for most of it though.  We stayed with it and Bummy (crew chief, Mike Bumgarner) made some good calls that helped put us in position to get those lost laps back.  We hung onto that lucky dog spot for a long, long time just waiting for the caution flag to come out.  I think everyone should be proud of themselves.  It wasn’t easy, but we’ll take it and move on to Phoenix.”
