Sweet holds off KKR boss Kahne for second win of 2015 in Australia
Californian Brad Sweet scored his second main event win from three contested in the International Series so far when he annexed the 2015 NSW Sprintcar Championship at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway tonight.
Sweet was rarely trouble for supremacy driving the #99 Highrace Towing KKR Chassis in the 35-lap A-Main as he became the first American since Danny Smith in 1986 to win the NSW Championship.
“I’m honoured to win this race even more now,” Sweet smiled as he was told of the statistic, “to win a race that the great Danny Smith has won thirty years ago is fantastic.”
Danny Smith would have been justifiably proud tonight as all three of the podium positions went to Americans with Sweet’s team owner Kasey Kahne placing second and Kraig Kinser in third.
“I feel like I’m really getting this place figured out,” grinned Kahne after recording his second consecutive runner-up finish in the C1 Speed KKR, “we had a great race going with Kraig (Kinser) for about five laps where we just ran side by side. It was a lot of fun.”
Kraig Kinser was a much speedier proposition tonight in the #4 Natrad Maxim and was all smiles at the end of the race.
